For a fun filled but relaxing quality vacation the Disney Bahamas Cruise is by far one of the best vacation options! I have to admit the price is a little intimidating however it is worth every dollar. There is something for everyone ... from the large split bathroom in your stateroom to accommodate your party, to the nightly musicals with pyrotechnics, to the adult only areas (of which there are several) not to mention the excellent cuisine. I have to say I'm a little prejudice I've been on the Disney cruise four times. On none of those occasions have I've taken my five year old son. I usually travel with a group of adults. So when I say there is something for everyone I mean that with the utmost honesty.

That special Disney touch can be seen in the attention to detail through out the ship's decor and design. Each area has a special theme and is carried out with intricate care including the adult areas such as the spa and reservation only restaurants. On the new Disney Dream there are two adult only restaurants with bottle service offering French and Italian cuisine and several bar/lounges. Adults also have there on pool area which is very relaxing and secluded. The Disney staff does a great job of ensuring that all the guest in the adult only areas are of age.

However, while your relaxing ... your kids are having the time of lives!!! On the Disney Dream there is so many things for them to explore. Disney offers complimentary child care services for most youth activities. All you have to do is register your child and make sure you drop him/her off on time. All the activities are age approximate and the trained staff is excellent. There are even activities for your teenagers on the Dream as well. Also for your added comfort each stateroom has two on board cellular phones to keep you in contact with your family as you explore the Dream. But while your doing all this exploring don't forget to ride the AQUA DUCK!!!

Each night you will dine in one of Disney's three different restaurants each with it own unique theme. The food is excellent but the presentation and service makes it just that more delicious. Disney offers complimentary juice and soda service as part of it's complimentary dining plan. Before or after dinner you can enjoy either a Disney Broadway spectacular in the two level theater or a top billed movie still in threaters in the large 3D movie threater.

As with all cruises Disney too offers excursions while in the Bahamas however no other cruise lines offers a stop at Castaway Cay! This water adventure play land offers all types of activities for a wonderful day at the beach. Not to mention the BBQ .... Royal Caribbean_Oasis of The Seas

A cruise on "Oasis of the Seas" in a word, AWESOME!!!

I recently went on the first sailing of the Oasis of the Seas. It was a 5 night cruise out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Labadee, Haiti. This ship is the largest ship afloat. There are 2700 staterooms, and carries 6300 passengers. Despite its size, Royal Caribbean has made it seem smaller by dividing it into neighborhoods. My stateroom with balcony overlooked the Central Park neighborhood. In that neighborhood alone there are two restaurants, high end stores, and over 200 live trees and shrubs.

There are so many awesome thing on this ship that it would take me forever to describe. Imagine a pool deep enough for a water show with dives from 100 feet platforms and dancing waters like those seen at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Imagine interactive screens near elevators that you touch for information to help you find your way around the ship. Imagine ten restaurants, not including the dining rooms. Imagine zipping across the ship on a zip line 14 decks up. Imagine rock climbing, ice skating, full court basketball, the largest gym and the most amazing spa I've ever seen at sea. Imagine all this and much more and you have the cruise of a lifetime.

Portugese Islands of the Azores

I recently returned from a trip to the Portugese islands of the Azores. There are 9 islands in total and I visited 4 of them. They are located in the Atlantic Ocean - a 4 1/2 hour flight from Boston, MA and 2 hours from mainland Portugal. Although they are islands, they are very much European. All the sidewalks and most of the streets are cobblestones. It is very common to see narrow streets with a veiw of the Atlantic. Each island has an abundance of cows. Until a few years ago, Terceira had more cows than people...lol There are various religious monuments around each island. And each island is represented by a different color b/c of some natural feature that is prevalent on the island.

Although not native to the Azores, the hydrangea is the official flower. From May through September, they are in full bloom and all over each island. It is also not common for them to serve vegetables with meals (other than a small salad of lettuce and tomatoes with oil & vinegar). Depeending upon the time if year you visit will determine whether you are served more meat or fish. Another things the islands are known for are the many volcano craters. Some have lakes and cities inside them. The last eruption was on the island of Faial in 1957.

The only airline that services the islands from the US is SATA International which has flights twice a week from Boston, MA. During high season, they offer an additional non-stop flight from Oakland, CA. From mainland Portugal, TAP Portugal is another way to gain access.

I went to Jamaica for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was a brief trip--two days--but I managed to pack a lot in my stay at the Iberostar Rosehall Suites in Montego Bay.

As the name implies the I.R. Suites is an all suites all-inclusive hotel. It's literally the middle child located between the Iberostar Grand (Luxury, Adults Only) and Iberostar Beaches (Family). After a twenty minute ride from the airport, I was welcomed by friendly staff and a complimentary drink upon arrival. Although it's a family resort it was pretty quiet, which I loved. I do like kids, but from a distance...Is that mean?

First thing I like to do after settling in my room is explore the hotel so I know the layout. The internet cafe is open 24 hours. I didn't have to wait for a computer but even if I did there was a pool table, board games, books, and loud 80s tunes to keep me entertained. The gym is located next to the spa. It was clean and there was a variety of machines to choose from. However, it was humid (ick) and lacked an enjoyable view (sorry but the tv and concrete wall didn't do it for me.) I joined other resort guests in the large theater for their nightly entertainment. The faux Las Vegas showgirl and silly comedy routines were as cheesy as I expected. BUT as they say, "if you can't beat `em join `em," so I participated in ONE line dance with some other brave souls. It was quite hilarious.

A thing about eating at all inclusive resorts. You usually end up eating more than you expect even if you have no intention on doing so. The buffets scream "try me! try me!" Expect to gain a few pounds just by looking at the food. There are four international a la carte restaurants to choose from which require reservations. I ate at the international buffet, which you know Iusu usually don't like, but I was with a group, so I went along. I became instant friends with the whitefish and plantains (uh, yum) and mangos (soooo sweet and delicious)!

I enjoy Bob Marley and realize his importance in Jamaican culture as well as music history. But, I know this is sacrilegious to say, I was relieved not to hear another "One Love" or "Jammin" song once I hit U.S. soil. I think part of me was craving a more authentic Jamaican experience where you not only meet "real" Jamaicans but you mingle with and get a true sense of their culture. I'm amazed by how international Jamaica is. The mostly African population is mixed with people of Asian, Spanish, and Indian descent. The colors of the flag represent the the country's legacy, history and agriculture--Yellow (the sun) Black (the peoples struggle) and Green (the land). Vacationing within the walls of any resort is great for chillin' out, grazing the day away, and enjoying yourself. But if you want a more cultural experience you have to find a trustworthy guide, make friends with the locals, venture out, use common sense and of course, have fun. I plan on going back to find out more about the legendary White Witch of Rose Hall.
